Pool Leak Detection & Repair

Leak detection and repair

If you are topping up the pool more than usual, the water is going somewhere. We find out where.

Every pool loses some water to evaporation, more in a dry valley summer. A leak is different: the level drops faster than the weather explains, the auto fill runs constantly, or there is wet ground where there should not be.

Leaks waste water, wash out soil and get worse with time. We track them down methodically, starting with the simple explanations and working toward the less obvious ones, and repair what we find.

Where leaks hide

Every fitting checked
  • 01

    At the equipment pad

Pump seals, filter tanks, valves, unions and heater connections. The most common source, and usually the easiest fix.

  • 02

    In the plumbing

Supply and return lines, and water lines to the property, where a break can be hard to isolate without the right help.

  • 03

    Around fittings and lights

Skimmers, returns, main drains and light niches, where the shell meets the plumbing.

  • 04

    In the shell

Cracks in plaster or tile lines, checked carefully before any repair is planned.

Worth a call

Signs of a leak

  • Water level dropping more than about a quarter inch a day
  • Auto fill running more than it used to
  • Wet or soft ground near the pool or equipment
  • Water around the equipment pad
  • Cracks or loose tile near the waterline
  • Air in the system or a pump losing prime

Losing more than the weather explains

A quick check you can do first

Set a bucket of pool water on a step so the water inside and outside the bucket are at the same height. Mark both levels and leave the pump on its normal schedule for a day. If the pool drops noticeably more than the bucket, it is a leak, not evaporation, and it is worth a call.
